What makes up the cost of Odoo, line by line
Four lines decide what Odoo costs in Canada. Odoo publishes the first and fourth; the second and third depend on your build.
Licence: what Odoo charges for each user
- Standard is CA$44.00 per user per month billed yearly, with every app on Odoo Online.
- Custom is CA$73.00 and adds Studio, multi-company, the external API, and Odoo.sh or your own server.
- Odoo's footnote: “The discount is valid for 12 months, for initial users ordered.” Year one is CA$35.20 for the users you start with.
- Users you add during the term are charged at list price for the rest of the term (agreement §5.1).
- Odoo also lists a Light User at CA$12.90 for staff who do not need a full login, where your version supports it.
- Prices exclude GST, HST and PST (agreement §5.3).

Implementation: usually the larger line
- Implementation is the work of setting Odoo up for your business: configuring the apps, moving your data and training your team.
- Odoo's own Success Packs are prepaid hours, from 4 to 200, at CA$155 to CA$181 an hour for new customers.
- Partners quote either hours or a fixed fee. Calibre quotes a fixed fee for each phase before that phase starts.
- The cost grows with the number of apps, the data you move, the integrations you need and how far your processes sit from Odoo's defaults.

Hosting: included, until you need custom code
- Standard runs on Odoo Online, and the hosting is part of the licence.
- Odoo Online does not run custom modules. Custom code needs the Custom plan on Odoo.sh or your own server.
- Odoo's price page states that Odoo.sh hosting is not included in the licence.
- On your own server, you pay for the server and for whoever keeps it patched and backed up.

Contract: four clauses that change the total
- The subscription renews automatically for the same term unless you give 30 days' written notice.
- While you pay below list price, each renewal can rise by up to 7% per year of the previous term.
- Fall more than three versions behind and Odoo adds 25% to the annual price, once a year.
- Custom modules covered by Odoo are charged monthly per 100 lines of code.

Who counts as a paying user?
Odoo's pricing page counts anyone with access to the back end who creates, views or edits documents, including employees who only record expenses or timesheets, and outside accountants. Customers and suppliers using the portal, and website visitors placing orders, are free.
- Light Users are listed at CA$12.90 per month, quoted through an Odoo advisor, for limited tasks such as their own time off, expenses and attendance, barcode operations, Point of Sale and the manufacturing shop floor.
- The Enterprise Subscription Agreement (v13, 24 September 2026) defines a Light User as a user marked Light, or an active employee record not linked to an active internal user, where your version supports it.
- Odoo 20 adds a Light option to each user's role and counts active employees with no user, an archived user or only a portal user. Odoo 19 counts user accounts only.
- So employee records kept for an attendance kiosk can start to count when you move to Odoo 20. Archived employee records are not counted. Ask Odoo to confirm in writing how your contract treats them.

The hours spent configuring, building and training. Ask for a fixed fee per phase rather than an open hourly estimate.
Custom fields, workflows and reports cost far less than custom modules. Every custom module also has to be carried through each upgrade.
Moving from QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, NetSuite or spreadsheets. It depends on the source and how clean the data is, so it should be quoted after someone has looked at it.
Payment processors, stores, banks, shipping carriers and your own systems. Well-used connectors are predictable; custom APIs are an estimate.

Five questions to ask before you sign
Each one comes from a clause in Odoo's agreement or from how demos are run.
- 1What is the price in year two?
The published price is a 12-month discount on the users you start with, and renewals can rise by up to 7% per year of the previous term. Ask for the year-two number in writing.
- 2What happens if we add three users in month five?
Added users are charged at list price for the rest of the term.
- 3Is this standard Odoo or custom, and who maintains it at the next version?
Custom modules are billed monthly per 100 lines of code and have to be carried through each upgrade.
- 4Which parts of the quote are fixed and which are estimates?
Ask what happens when an estimate runs over, and who approves the extra hours.
- 5Can you show us a partial shipment and a credit note?
A demo runs on clean data. Ask to see an exception, and ask whether the demo database contains any custom code.

How much does Odoo cost per user in Canada?
Odoo Standard is CA$44.00 per user per month billed yearly, and CA$55.00 billed monthly. The Custom plan is CA$73.00 billed yearly. In the first 12 months, the users you start with pay a discounted rate: CA$35.20 on Standard and CA$57.90 on Custom. Prices were checked on odoo.com on 25 October 2026 and exclude tax.
Do portal users count toward the Odoo subscription?
No. Customers and suppliers who sign in through the portal to see their own documents are not paying users. Anyone with back-end access to create, view or edit documents is.
Do employee records without a login cost money in Odoo?
The Enterprise Subscription Agreement counts them as Light Users where your version supports it. Odoo 20 counts active employees with no internal user, while Odoo 19 has no such count, so confirm with Odoo how your contract treats them.
Is Odoo Community free?
Yes. Community is open source with no licence fee, but you host it yourself and it leaves out the Enterprise apps and features, such as Studio and bank synchronization. Odoo also offers One App Free: one app with unlimited users on Odoo Online.
How much does an Odoo implementation cost?

Does the Odoo price go up after the first year?
The published discount lasts 12 months for the users you start with. At renewal, Odoo's agreement allows a price below list to rise by up to 7% per year of the previous term, and users added during the term are charged at list price.
What does Odoo's unlimited support cover?
Unlimited tickets about bugs and how to use standard features. Help with your own configuration, custom modules or development may need a separate agreement, and Odoo decides when a request is not covered.
Do we pay for custom code every month?
If Odoo maintains your custom modules under the subscription, yes: the agreement charges a monthly fee per 100 lines of code, counted with the cloc tool. The rate is set in your own contract.
What happens if we stay on an old version of Odoo?
Odoo covers the three most recent major versions and releases one a year. If your database is older than that, the agreement adds 25% to the annual price, charged once a year. An Odoo upgrade avoids it.
