How to Verify Odoo Sales Claims Before You Buy · Calibre Consulting

Check what the Odoo sales rep told you before you sign.

Which Odoo sales claims to check yourself, how to test them in a trial or Community database, and what to get in writing before you sign.

This guide helps you settle conflicting answers from Odoo sales representatives or partners before you buy. The short answer: almost every claim that decides the purchase, from edition and apps to hosting, price, contract terms and Success Pack hours, can be checked against Odoo's public pricing page, its Enterprise Subscription Agreement or a test database. Check those yourself, and get everything else in the written quote.

It is written for owners, controllers and IT leads replacing a system such as QuickBooks Enterprise. Prices and terms were checked on odoo.com on 7 October 2026; software behavior was checked in Odoo 19 and 20.

Before you start

Claims you can check against Odoo's own documents

  1. Which apps are in which edition. In Odoo 19 and 20, Sales, Purchase, Inventory and Manufacturing, including bills of materials, work orders and operations, are Community. Community's Invoicing app handles customer invoices and vendor bills, but the full Accounting app, with the profit and loss and balance sheet reports, is Enterprise, as are the Shop Floor screen for operators, Quality and Studio.
  2. What each plan includes. As of 7 October 2026, the Standard plan includes all apps on Odoo Online only. The Custom plan adds Studio, multi-company, the external API and the choice of Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting; Odoo.sh hosting costs extra. Because multi-company is listed only under Custom, two companies in one database should be quoted on Custom.
  3. Where you can host. Odoo Online does not accept custom modules. It also runs interim versions that Odoo.sh and on-premise servers do not support, so a database moving off Odoo Online may first need upgrading to the next major version.
  4. User prices, with the date. On 7 October 2026, odoo.com showed Standard at CAD 35.20 per user per month billed yearly, down from CAD 44.00, and Custom at CAD 57.90, down from CAD 73.00. Monthly billing costs more. The page states the discount is valid for 12 months, for the users ordered at the start. Light Users were listed at CAD 12.90 a month and are quoted by an Odoo advisor. Prices appear in your local currency and change, so record the date.
  5. Contract terms. Version 13 of the Enterprise Subscription Agreement, dated 24 September 2026, renews the subscription automatically for the same term unless either side gives written notice 30 days before the end. Renewal charges can rise by up to 7% per year of the previous term, users added mid-term are charged at list price for the rest of the term, and any active employee record without its own user account counts as a Light User.
  6. Support and upgrades. The subscription includes unlimited tickets for bugs and guidance on standard features, not for development or customization, and version upgrades at no extra fee. A database older than the three most recent major versions adds a yearly fee of 25% of the subscription price.
  7. Success Pack hours. As of 7 October 2026: 4 hours for CAD 850, 25 for CAD 5,260, 50 for CAD 10,300, 100 for CAD 18,250 and 200 for CAD 36,500, with 15% off a new customer's first pack. An Odoo consultant analyzes your needs, configures the apps and trains your users in phone or online sessions. Custom development is charged separately, per day.

Who is selling also matters. Odoo sells directly and through partners, and partners earn up to 20% commission on Enterprise licenses they sell. The agreement lets you change partner, or move to Odoo directly, with 30 days' written notice.

How to test the rest in a database

There are two free ways to test. An Odoo Online trial, started from odoo.com, runs Enterprise for a limited period; the home screen shows "This database will expire in" followed by the days left. Odoo Community, installed on your own server, has no expiry in Odoo 19 or 20, and the same database can later move to Enterprise by installing the Enterprise modules and entering a subscription code, as Odoo's documentation describes.

  1. Create the database and install only the apps on your process list.
  2. Open the Settings app and scroll to the About section at the bottom of General Settings. It shows the version and edition, and on a trial, the Database expiration date.
  3. If two companies will share the database, click Manage Companies under Companies in the same page and create the second company.
  4. Import a sample of real data, such as products, bills of materials, customers and open orders, using the spreadsheet import, which accepts CSV and Excel files. Standard Odoo 19 and 20 have no QuickBooks-specific importer, so export from QuickBooks to spreadsheets first.
  5. Run your exceptions: a partial shipment, a return, a credit note and a month-end task.
  6. For each step, note whether it worked in standard Odoo or needed something a representative said was included.

What to put in writing

Recommendation: when two representatives disagree, ask each to point to the pricing page or the agreement clause behind the answer, because those documents are what you sign. An answer that cannot be tied to either belongs in the written quote.

Common questions

How much does Odoo cost per user?

On 7 October 2026, odoo.com listed the Standard plan at CAD 35.20 per user per month billed yearly and the Custom plan at CAD 57.90, both shown as first-year discounts from CAD 44.00 and CAD 73.00. The page states the discount lasts 12 months and applies to the users ordered at the start, so check the page on the day you buy.

Which Odoo apps are free in Community?

In Odoo 19 and 20, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing and Invoicing are Community apps. The full Accounting app with profit and loss and balance sheet reports, the Shop Floor screen, Quality and Studio are Enterprise.

Does an Odoo Community database expire?

No. In Odoo 19 and 20, the expiry warning and expiry date are handled by Enterprise code, so a Community database installed on your own server has no trial clock. An Odoo Online trial does expire and shows the days left on its home screen.

Can I run two companies in one Odoo database?

Odoo supports several companies in one database, and you can add one in Settings under Companies with Manage Companies. As of 7 October 2026, the pricing page lists multi-company only under the Custom plan, so ask for it to be quoted that way.

Does Odoo's subscription renew automatically?

Yes. Version 13 of the Odoo Enterprise Subscription Agreement renews it for the same term unless either side gives written notice at least 30 days before the end, and renewal charges can rise by up to 7% per year of the previous term.
